A few weeks ago we had a gas leak scare. We were getting ready for bed when my partner noticed the faint smell of gas. We checked our kid’s room and it was difficult to tell until we turned off their air filter and it was very intense. Their room was above the kitchen and it had been a few hours since we were there so it must have been leaking this entire time. We examined the stove and noticed one knob wasn’t completely pointing straight at off and it must been that one of us bumped into it when walking by. We woke up the kids and got them outside while opening all the doors and windows. We called our apartment maintenance team who helped turn it off and made sure there was no other gas leak. We went to stay at a nearby hotel since the gas was slowly airing out.
Since we cannot always rely on my partner’s nose for detecting for gas leaks, we set out for an automatic detection system. We wanted something that will let us know right away before it gets to a point of filling the entire home with gas before our noses can check if we aren’t asleep. Also since we live in an apartment, something that could hopefully detect if our neighbor has a gas leak too. We searched amazon and found the Gas Knight wall alarm.
There was a helpful video and also the reviews for the most part seemed like a good investment for the peace of mind that there is an automatic redundancy for detecting for gas or other deadly gases. Installation was extremely easy and we have been using it for months. We use a tower surge protector in our kitchen since we weren’t able to find a spot in the wall that would fit well.
I still check each night and through out the day to make sure we didn’t knock the knobs again on the stove. I really love though having a device that is also always checking just in case I forgot or we aren’t smelling for it. Luckily it hasn’t gone off yet so I can’t speak from experience yet for successful detection. This could be a great house warming present to someone you know as well or if you have family with gas stoves or other appliances.
