This is my honest opinion of dresses from Christy Dawn. All the opinions are my own and all the dresses reviewed were purchased myself.
I really love Christy Dawn dresses, they are easy and perfect for the lazy dresser like myself.
About Christy Dawn:
They are a company based in Los Angeles, California that uses deadstock fabrics to sew dresses. Deadstock fabrics are left over fabrics from other design houses that would otherwise be tossed out and end up in landfills. Another reason I love Christy Dawn is that they actually care about the earth, their employees, and the quality of their pieces.
Because they use deadstock fabric, not all the dresses in certain prints are around all the time. They have permanent dress styles but the print/color/fabric of each dress is fluid and changes. Most are usually sold out pretty qiuckly.
Now lets talk dresses and break down some of their permanent styles that I currently own:
1. The Dawn Dress: This is an easy peasy one to love. Sleeves, cinched waist, midi to maxi length. Its pretty perfect. The only caveat is that some can be pretty sheer and the neckline can be low for my liking. I usually always wear a slip underneath.
2. The Paloma Dress: Another super easy dress for a lazy dresser like myself to love. Long sleeves and full skirt with tassels. This dress is usually lined so there’s not a huge need for a slip underneath. And ladies, no bra necessary. This works well on small busts.
3. The Theo Dress: This one is super easy to wear. Short sleeves, full skirt, and high neckline. The only thing I don’t love about this one is the neckline tends to ride up and sometimes can be uncomfortable.
4. The Basil Dress: This is a beautiful dress, it’s got 3/4 sleeves, a full skirt, and a smocked bodice. The smocked bodice is not a favorite for my shape, it makes the bust area look funny on me.
5. The Dahlia Dress: Love this. It’s like the Dawn but with puffy sleeves instead. This dress is very flattering but it feels odd when you raise your arm. I noticed that each time I raise my arm the sleeve would move up and make it more puffy. I prefer a subtle puff so I would have to pull it back down.
Styles I would like to try: Daisy, River, and Robin.
Each dress is sized differently based on the fabric so in some dresses a size S fits perfectly but in a different fabric S is too big or too small and a M fits better. They have measurements for each dress to help.
A few other reasons to love Christy Dawn:
*Your first order comes in a keepsake wooden box.
*The packages always smell lovely as they include some lavender flower stems.
*Your dress also comes with a reusable tote bag.
It’s the little things 🙂
Another reason I truly love this company is how earth friendly they are. They have a “Farm-to-Closet Initiative” and I think it is beautiful. They are working with farmers in India to grow cotton that will be used for their dresses. This is amazing for so many reasons, in which they can word much better than I can therefore I pasted a quote from their website. “Together with a community of traditional farmers and craftspeople in southern India, we are working to nourish a depleted plot of land back to health, sowing and cultivating our own cotton with regenerative techniques that honor Mother Earth.” You can read more about it here.
I will have to come back to add in pictures of their lovely dresses. They also have gorgeous boots which will be on my wishlist for next time.
When to Buy:
They release dresses in new prints or old prints throughout the week. They have occasional sales throughout the year, 20% or 30%. However, if you it is a print you love I recommend you buy it just in case it sells out while you wait for a sale.
